If you care more about makeup and hair than math or science, there is a place for you in this world. Unfortunately, that place might not exist as a valedictorian of your high school class. If you spent four years in high school and never felt comfortable with your required classes such as math, science, and literature, you're not alone. There are many people just like you who have interests and passions that lie outside of most school curriculums. A passion for cosmetology falls into this category. The cosmetology industry is huge. Just go to any drugstore and look at the selection of shampoos and makeup if you don't believe me. It is odd that with so many job opportunities available in the cosmetology field, there aren't more opportunities to learn about the subject in high school.

Fortunately, you can immerse yourself into cosmetology after high school by enrolling in cosmetology school. Most cosmetology schools offer either associate's degrees or certification programs that typically last no longer than a few years. While in cosmetology school, you'll learn about hair care, skincare, makeup, and total body wellness. The most common path for a cosmetology school graduate is to work at a beauty salon, but there are a number of other less-traveled but possible career paths. Many cosmetologists end up applying makeup in the theatre or on a movie set. Others work for companies that make beauty products, sometimes acting as consultants or salespeople.
